A massive explosion rocked Beirut, Lebanon on August 4, 2020, leaving at least 10 people dead and countless others wounded. It was unclear, at first, what caused the horrific blast at Beirut’s seaport, but officials later determined that explosive materials at a warehouse likely ignited. Photos and videos before the explosion showed a giant, pink smoke cloud growing over the Lebanese capital, until it suddenly became a fireball, the shockwaves eminating throughout the city and knocking people on their feet. Windows shattered, storefronts were destroyed, and some buildings were leveled. The roads were littered with debris, forcing some of the injured to walk through the smoke to get to nearby hospitals for treatment. To see more photos from the crisis, scroll through this gallery.
