Bianca Andreescu plays a match against legendary tennis player Serena Williams at the U.S. Open in the Women’s Final in New York City on September 7, 2019. The 19-year-old tennis player made history become the first-ever Canadian to take the Grand Slam title at the U.S. open.
Bianca was born on June 16, 2000 in Toronto, Ontario. Her parents immigrated to Canada from Romania, where Bianca moved back with her mother between the ages of six and nine. Bianca first discovered tennis while living back in Europe, and began training with a coach there. Upon returning to Canada, she was actively already practicing the sport, and later enrolled in an online high school program so she could continue to actively compete. Bianca is a proud Toronto resident, showing her support for the city’s NBA team, the Raptors, on social media and also attending events in and around the city. She regularly posts about travel and her pets on Instagram, and is an avid hiker.
