Active shooter at Walmart in El Paso, Texas, USA – 03 Aug 2019
Police stand at attention during an active shooter at a Walmart in El Paso, Texas, on Aug. 3, 2019, Multiple shooters and injuries were are reported. Gunfire broke out around 10:40am with a packed store with over 1,000 shoppers inside. The alleged suspect turned out to be a lone gunman, 21-year-old Patrick Crusius of Allen, Texas. He drove 650 miles from his home in a suburb north of Dallas to El Paso to allegedly carry out the heinous attack. In the end 20 people were killed and another 26 hospitalized. The FBI has launched an investigation into domestic terrorism after the suspect allegedly left a 4 page manifestor posted to imageboard website 8Chan around 10:15am that claimed the mass murder was committed in “response to [the] Hispanic invasion of Texas.” He also wrote that he was was sympathetic to the man charged with killing 51 people earlier this year at a mosque in Christchurch, New Zealand, two officials told The Washington Post. The shooter used an AK-47 rifle in the attack. El Paso Police Chief Greg Allen described to reporters that the shooting has “the nexus of a hate crime.” He also added that the police department is looking at potential capital murder charges.
