‘Game Of Thrones’ Transformations
The ‘Game of Thrones’ cast members in real life don’t exactly look like their onscreen characters. Every time the cast would start filming the show again, they would undergo major transformations to get into character. Sophie Turner would dye her hair from blonde to red to play Sansa Stark. Emilia Clarke, a natural brunette, would wear a platinum blonde wig to get into character as Daenerys Targaryen. However, she did dye her hair blonde for the final season. Maisie Williams, who plays Arya Stark, has dyed her hair pink, blue, and more when she’s not filming the show. Other actors have to get into character in other ways. Rory McCann has to sit in the makeup chair to get prosthetics put on to achieve The Hound’s burned face. Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson, who plays The Mountain, is unrecognizable on the show. The Mountain, who was brought back to life, now has bloodshot eyes and flaky purple skin. See more of the ‘Game of Thrones’ cast transformations in our gallery now.
‘Game Of Thrones’ Transformations
Sophie Turner vs. Sansa Stark. While Sansa has long red hair on the show, Sophie is a natural blonde. She’s spent years dyeing her hair red for ‘Game of Thrones.’
‘Game Of Thrones’ Transformations
Kit Harington vs. Jon Snow. Jon’s quintessential look is the long hair with a beard. Kit has been contractually obligated to keep his hair long for the show, but once ‘Game of Thrones’ was done filming, he chopped his locks off!
‘Game Of Thrones’ Transformations
Emilia Clarke vs. Daenerys Targaryen. Emilia is a natural brunette, so she’s been wearing platinum blonde wigs since the show began in 2011. However, she did decide to dye her hair blonde in honor of the final season.
‘Game Of Thrones’ Transformations
Maisie Williams vs. Arya Stark. At both season 8 premieres in New York and London, Maisie has rocked purple and pink hair. This is a shocking change from Arya’s simple brunette hair color.
‘Game Of Thrones’ Transformations
Isaac Hempstead Wright vs. Bran Stark. Isaac doesn’t undergo much change to play Bran, but he does lose the glasses.
‘Game Of Thrones’ Transformations
Gwendoline Christie vs. Brienne of Tarth. Brienne is a warrior, so getting glammed up is not an option. Well, Gwendoline dazzled at the season 8 premiere in April 2019 with her blonde waves and gorgeous floral dress.
‘Game Of Thrones’ Transformations
Lena Headey vs. Cersei Lannister. Cersei is known for her long blonde hair, but her locks were cut ahead of her Walk of Shame in season 3. Now she’s rocking a fierce pixie cut. In real life, Lena is actually brunette.
‘Game Of Thrones’ Transformations
Peter Dinklage vs. Tyrion Lannister. Since he’s a Lannister, Tyrion has some shades of blonde in his hair. Peter rocks lighter hair when playing Tyrion. In real life, he’s got shorter, darker locks.
‘Game Of Thrones’ Transformations
Nikolaj Coster Waldau vs. Jaime Lannister. Nikolaj is just as dashing in person as he is on the show as Jaime Lannister. All he has to do is put on Jaime’s armor and go!
‘Game Of Thrones’ Transformations
Nathalie Emanuel vs. Missandei. Nathalie and Missandei both have such a gorgeous natural beauty. Nathalie has never had to undergo much of a transformation to play Missandei.
‘Game Of Thrones’ Transformations
Rory McCann vs. The Hound. Since The Hound’s brother, The Mountain, burned his face when he was a boy, The Hound has nasty burn scars on the right side of his face. Rory has to wear prosthetics to play The Hound.
‘Game Of Thrones’ Transformations
Kristofer Hivju vs. Tormund. In real life, Kristofer has that same gorgeous red beard as Tormund. It’s just a little more refined and kempt.
‘Game Of Thrones’ Transformations
Pilou Asbæk vs. Euron Greyjoy. Pilou cleans up nicely in real life. Euron rocks a scruffy look and sometimes eyeline, giving off a sexy pirate look, on the show.
‘Game Of Thrones’ Transformations
Joe Dempsie vs. Gendry Baratheon. Joe keeps his hair buzzed to play Gendry. Both the actor and the character are extremely handsome, that’s for sure.
‘Game Of Thrones’ Transformations
Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson vs. The Mountain. The Mountain may have been brought back from the dead after his fight with Oberyn, but that doesn’t mean he’s well. The Mountain has bloodshot eyes and purple flaky skin now, which looks nothing like the actor in real life.
‘Game Of Thrones’ Transformations
Liam Cunningham vs. Davos Seaworth. Since winter has arrived, Davos keeps his beard long. Liam cut it a bit shorter and wore glasses at the season 8 premiere in NYC.
‘Game Of Thrones’ Transformations
Conleth Hill vs. Varys. Varys may be bald, but Conleth his not. At the season 8 premiere in NYC, Conleth showed off his white hair.
‘Game Of Thrones’ Transformations
Alfie Allen vs. Theon Greyjoy. Theon continues to have long curly hair and a bit of scruff, whereas Alfie keeps his hair short and his face clean shaven.
