Gwen Stefani doesn’t want to tie the knot with fiance Blake Shelton unless her beloved parents Dennis and Patti Stefani can be there to witness the couple’s nuptials. The “Hollaback Girl” singer revealed what she’s hoping for in her wedding plans amid the COVID-19 pandemic during a Dec. 7 appearance on On Air With Ryan Seacrest. The 45-year-old host asked the 51-year-old beauty, “In a post-pandemic world, would you prefer a smaller ceremony or a larger wedding?” You can see her response in the above video at the 3:15 mark.

“I would say I just want my parents there at this point,” Gwen responded, as having her family present is what matters the most to her. She revealed, “My parents wouldn’t come to Thanksgiving because they were so scared (about the COVID-19 pandemic), so really would rather it not be a COVID situation. I would rather not have masks and that kind of thing.”

Gwen said that even if the couple invited family members only and didn’t include any friends, it would still be too large of a gathering under current COVID-19 protocols. “Even when you cut it down to family, its too many people for COVID. So we’re sort of going to see what happens in the next few months,” Gwen continued.

In addition to her parents, Gwen has three siblings: brothers Eric, 53, and Todd, 46, and a sister Jill. The Voice coach is also the godmother to her niece, Todd’s daughter Stella. And Gwen of course has three children of her own by ex-husband Gavin Rossdale, sons Kingston, 14, Zuma, 12, and Apollo, 6. Blake has a brother Richie and a sister Endy, and parents Dorothy and Richard Shelton.

Unfortunately the “next few months” don’t appear to have any respite in sight for gatherings due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Groups of any size outside of immediate household family are currently banned in California due to a surge in hospitalizations and deaths, though measures aren’t as strict in Blake’s native Oklahoma. As far as Gwen’s desire for a mask-free wedding, in the absence of a widely available coronavirus vaccine, Americans are going to be wearing masks for the foreseeable future as the pandemic rages.

Hey @gwenstefani thanks for saving my 2020… And the rest of my life.. I love you. I heard a YES!

Blake and Gwen announced their engagement on Oct. 27 after five years of dating. The proposal went down shortly before that while the couple was in Oklahoma. The “God’s Country” singer shared a photo of Gwen holding up her ring while kissing Blake in a Twitter post. He wrote, Hey @gwenstefani thanks for saving my 2020… And the rest of my life.. I love you. I heard a YES!” Now the pair has to put off tying the knot until the pandemic gets under control if they even want just their closest family members present.
