MTV News anchor Kurt Loder pauses during his show, at MTV studios in Times Square in New York. He started with the cable network in 1988, as the anchor of MTV News and ‘The Week in Rock.’ He came to MTV following a nine year storied run at ‘Rolling Stone’ magazine, where he was a writer/editor. He did prolific interviews with the likes of Bruce Springsteen and Bob Dylan, and co-authored Tina Turner’s 1986 autobiography ‘I, Tina.’ When it was later turned into the film ‘What’s Love Got To Do With It,’ Kurt contributed to the script.
Kurt was older than MTV’s demographic when he joined, but his wealth of knowlege and experience in the music news industry earned him a legion of fans. He was the ‘adult in the room’ who everyone trusted, and his reporting skills were second to none in the industry. Kurt will be forever remembered by members of Generation X for when he broke into MTV’s daily programming on Apr. 5, 1994 to deliver the news that Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain had committed suicide at his home in Seattle. His calm and insightful demeanor helped cushion the devastating blow for millions of the band’s fans.
Kurt turned 75-years-old on May 5, 2020, which freaked out many of his formerly young viewers and made them all feel really old themselves. Message of love and appreciation for Kurt soon flooded Twitter and made him a trending topic.
