With Hollywood being Hollywood, drama is constantly spread around like wildfire. There have been countless TV cast feuds on some of the hottest shows. It was reported that Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey did not get along while they were judges on ‘American Idol’ for one season. They even got into an argument during auditions. The beloved HBO show ‘Sex and the City’ was not immune to Hollywood drama. Sarah Jessica Parker and Kim Cattrall reportedly did not see eye-to-eye at some points during the show’s run. The rumors about the co-stars got pretty intense, but Sarah and Kim have spoken openly about how there is no beef at the end of the day. Take a look back at some of the most memorable TV cast feuds.
‘Live With Kelly & Michael’
When Michael Strahan announced that he was leaving ‘Live With Kelly & Michael’ in April 2016 for a full-time role on ‘Good Morning America,’ everyone was shocked. Kelly was reportedly blindsided by the news. The drama turned up a notch when Kelly Ripa was noticeably absent from her co-host chair for a few days after Michael’s announcement. She returned and said she needed a ‘couple of days to gather my thoughts’ about the situation. She congratulated Michael on his new gig. Michael was initially supposed to stay through the summer on ‘Live,’ but his final day as co-host was moved up to May. Ryan Seacrest eventually replaced Michael as Kelly’s co-host.
‘Glee’
It was reported for years that Naya Rivera and Lea Michele, who played Santana and Rachel, did not get along on the set of ‘Glee.’ In Naya’s 2016 memoir, ‘Sorry Not Sorry: Dreams, Mistakes and Growing Up,’ the actress wrote that she thought Lea ‘didn’t like sharing the spotlight’ with her. During an appearance on ‘WWHL’ in 2019, Naya denied feuding with Lea. ‘I don’t think there was like any beef,’ she said. Naya passed away at the age of 33 in July 2020 after a boating accident.
‘Sex and The City’
Sarah Jessica Parker and Kim Cattrall played BFFs Carrie and Samantha on the show, but off-camera was a different story. It was reported that there were tensions between them over money when SJP began to get paid more than Kim. Rumors continued to swirl about beef between the co-stars for years, but both women have slammed feud reports. The four co-stars had a mini-reunion of sorts in April 2020 when they called into ‘The Bradshaw Boys’ podcast to thank healthcare workers on the frontlines during the coronavirus pandemic.
‘Castle’
Even though Stana Katic and Nathan Fillion played onscreen loves Kate Beckett Richard Castle on the ABC series ‘Castle,’ there was reportedly major tension between the co-stars. Stana was very much a central part of the show, but ABC shockingly announced that Stana would be departing the series after 8 seasons. The network soon canceled the series altogether.
‘Grey’s Anatomy’
Isaiah Washington, who played Burke, used a homophobic slur when talking about co-star T.R. Knight, who played George, during an on-set fight with Patrick Dempsey, a.k.a. Derek Shepherd, in Oct. 2006. T.R. was not out at the time, but he later revealed publicly that he is gay. Backstage at the 2007 Golden Globes, Isaiah repeated the slur, causing more controversy. Isaiah apologized but he was out of a job after season 3.
‘Two & A Half Men’
‘Two & Half Men’ was riding high in the ratings and acclaim until 2011. When things started to unravel in star Charlie Sheen’s personal life, so did the show. Charlie slammed co-creator Chuck Lorre in a series of interviews and even called him a ‘loser’ in a letter sent to TMZ. Charlie was fired from the show in March 2011. Charlie went on to sue Warner Bros and Chuck for $100 million over his firing and settled for $25 million.
‘American Idol’
Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj joined ‘American Idol’ for season 12, and their beef started almost immediately. Tensions boiled over during auditions in North Carolina when they were videotaped arguing. They went on to have a war of words with the press over the course of the season. They appeared to make peace at a TCA panel in 2013, but they both left the show after one season.
‘The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air’
Janet Hubert played the original Aunt Viv on the hit comedy for the first 3 seasons. She was suddenly replaced by Daphne Maxwell Reid for the final 3 seasons. It’s been over 20 years since the show ended in 1996, and Janet still has beef with her former co-star Will Smith, whom Janet still blames for her being ousted from the show.
‘Gossip Girl’
Although Serena and Blair were best friends on ‘Gossip Girl,’ the same couldn’t be said for Blake Lively and Leighton Meester. Executive producer and writer Joshua Safran told
that ‘Blake and Leighton were not friends’ off the set. They were ‘friendly’ to each other but not BFFs.
