A host of family and friends gathered in New York today (20 March) to attend a wake for the late Natasha Richardson. The 45-year-old star died on Wednesday (18 March) after suffering serious head injuries during an accident while skiing at the Canadian resort of Mont Tremblant. Today, Richardson’s husband Liam Neeson and their two sons, Micheal, 13, and Daniel, 12, were joined by her mother, Vanessa Redgrave and sister, Joely Richardson, for the wake at the American Irish Historical Society in Manhattan. An array of stars including Thurman, Fiennes, Matthew Broderick, Ethan Hawke, Diane Sawyer, Matthew Modine, and Sarah Jessica Parker also came to offer their condolences. The day before Broadway theatres dimmed their lights in a symbolic tribute to the stage and screen star. The lights went down at 2000 EST (0000 GMT), the traditional starting time for evening performances in New York. Richardson’s funeral will take place on Sunday (22 March).
