Halle Berry as Catwoman in the movie of the same name. The 2004 flick unfortunately was met with poor reviews, but it helped pave the way for many female superhero movies to come. The advent of the ‘X-Men’ film series in 2000 broke through superhero roles for stars including Anna Paquin. The Marvel Comics Universe helped give rise to powerful female superhero characters. Scarlett Johansson was one of the first to get on board, playing Black Widow in 2010’s ‘Iron Man 2’ and going on to star in six ‘Avengers’-related films. She finally is getting her own stand-alone ‘Black Widow’ movie that should hit theaters in late 2020.
Elizabeth Olsen has thrilled audiences as The Scarlet Witch in several ‘Avengers’ films. She’s appeared in two Captain America movies and a total of three ‘Avengers’ films: ‘Age of Ultron,’ ‘Infinity War’ and ‘Endgame.’ Zoe Saldana is also part of the MCU, playing Gamora in the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ franchise of films, as well as two ‘Avengers’ movies.
