Simona Halep celebrates victory with the trophy in her Ladies’ Singles final at the Wimbledon Tennis Championships. She was all smiles for cameras after the win.

Simona won her first ever Wimbledon title at the 2019 Wimbledon Tennis Championships in London, England on July 13. She took the top spot from U.S. player Serena Williams, who has been known as the best player in the history of the sport. In addition to her Wimbledon win, the Romanian athlete won two Grand Slams and the 2018 French Open years after breaking into the world’s top 50 tennis players in 2012.

She first started playing tennis at the age of four and started practicing daily by the time she was six. She moved to Bucharest when she was 16 to better her tennis career and started playing in junior competitions in 2008. Her father was also an athlete and played football at Săgeata Stejaru.
