The Magicians: Summer Bishil & Hale Appleman
Summer Bishil and Hale Appleman from The Magicians visited HollywoodLife for an EXCLUSIVE interview and photoshoot. The SYFY series follows Quentin Coldwater, a grad student at Brakebills College for Magical Pedagogy, who has been fascinated by the magical fantasy world since he was young. But as he has gotten older, Quentin and his 20-something friends have discovered that the magical world they read about as children is not only real, but it poses dangers to humanity. While studying at the secret upstate New York school, the friends struggle to cope with the aftermath of a catastrophe that befalls the institution. The fantasy series is based on a series of novels by Lev Grossman. The show is currently in its 5th and final season.

On Fillory Without Magic
““Without magic we not only have our magical hands tied but also our ruling hands are tied because we can’t call the shots of our kingdom anymore. So, there is a power greater than us that is directly influencing every decision and every move,” Hale shared. “There’s Elliot and Margo ruling the kingdom and ruling even their little counsel. And then there’s the fairy queen looming over their heads. So in the first few episodes I think it’s pretty interesting to see that power dynamic shift.”
On How Margo Will Handle Losing Magic
“I think attaining and retaining power is incredibly important and valuable to Margo because she still doesn’t have her inner compass. Her identity is very much based external validation of power whether it be the cool girl on campus or the top bitch, and now there’s a new top bitch!”

The Magicians To End After Season 5
The show’s Season 5 finale, set to air on April 1, will now serve as the series finale. Executive producer Sera Gamble told TV Insider, “We had the sense going into this season that Syfy… was kind of hitting the point of ‘The cup is full and there’s no more room,’” and as such a fitting ending was crafted.
EP John McNamara on ‘The Magicians’ Series Finale
“None of them seemed in the end like a perfect financial or creative fit. And so we reluctantly just decided, ‘Well at least we have this season finale that was crafted to also be a series finale.’ It was kind of always going to pull double duty,” he told TV Insider.
