While Jonathan Larson is best-remembered as the composer and writer of the iconic Broadway musical ‘Rent,’ his second most well-known work was the autobiographical musical ‘Tick, Tick… Boom!’ which hit Off-Broadway in 2001, five years after his sudden death from an undiagnosed heart condition in 1996.
Even though ‘Tick, Tick… Boom!’ may not have the same following that ‘Rent’ may have, it’s remained a beloved staple for avid theatergoers. ‘Hamilton’ creator Lin-Manuel Miranda signed on to direct a film adaptation for Netflix, which will hit the streaming service on November 19. The musical is based on Jonathan’s own fears and reservations about approaching 30, as a composer. The movie stars Andrew Garfield in the leading role, as well as Vanessa Hudgens as an actor in one of Jonathan’s plays. Actors from the original Broadway cast of ‘Rent’ also made cameos in the movie.
