Azealia Banks & Cardi B
While she once praised Cardi B and called herself a “fan” in an interview, Azealia Banks’ feud with Cardi dates back to about September 2017, when she called the rapper a “poor mans [sic] nicki” Minaj and suggested that Cardi hired a ghostwriter for “Bodak Yellow.” (Cardi, for her part, responded with an old clip that showed Azealia dancing to the No. 1 song.) The feud escalated in May 2018, after Azealia called Cardi “illiterate” and a “caricature of a Black woman.” She said on The Breakfast Club, “Two years ago, the conversation surrounding Black women’s culture was really reaching an all-time high.”
Referencing Beyoncé’s Lemonade, she continued, “There was just this really, really, really intelligent conversation going on nationally and then everything just kind of changed and then it was like Cardi B.” Cardi hit back on Instagram, calling Azealia a “hypocrite” for praising Beyoncé when she had previously criticized her, among other insults. Azealia responded a few days later, calling herself a “free-thinker,” and the entire debacle culminated in Cardi deleting her Instagram.
Cardi has since returned to IG, and things appear to be quiet on the feud front — for now.
Lil’ Kim & Nicki Minaj
Lil’ Kim notably addressed her feelings about Nicki Minaj in an interview in June 2010, accusing the “Chun-Li” rapper of “subliminally taking shots at me” and “at the other girls in the industry.” Lil’ Kim also took issue with Nicki’s verse in the “Hello Good Morning” remix, in which she raps, “Did I kill a queen?” (The lyric has been interpreted as a reference to Lil’ Kim’s Queen Bee nickname.) Nicki responded a few months later, saying that the rapper will be remembered as a “sore loser.”
The troubles continued when Lil’ Kim released her mixtape, Black Friday (yes, a name play on Nicki’s 2010 debut album, Pink Friday) in February 2011, calling Nicki a “clone” and “wannabe.” Nicki then responded with a new diss track, “Tragedy,” in April 2012, rapping, “It must hurt to sell ya album off Paypal.” The feud took a turn when Nicki cited Lil’ Kim as one of her favorite rappers in a May 2013 radio interview and claimed she had no “beef” with anyone. Fast forward to August 2018, and Lil’ Kim has insisted that she’s moved on from the drama.
Remy Ma & Nicki Minaj
Remy Ma claims that Nicki tried to sabotage her career after she got out of prison. They traded diss tracks, Nicki with “No Frauds” and Remy with “SHEther”.
Azealia Banks & Iggy Azalea
Azealia Banks called out Iggy Azalea for referring to herself as a “runaway slave master” in a freestyle. Iggy didn’t respond, but apologized for the lyric. Azealia continued to diss her and her boss, T.I. She also called Iggy “the white man’s Nicki Minaj.”
Lil’ Kim & Foxy Brown
One of the OG rap feuds! Kim and Foxy Brown are STILL fighting 20 years later, and even once involved jail time! During an appearance on Hot 97, their crews fired shots at each other, and Kim went to jail for perjury when she said she didn’t know any of the shooters.
Nicki Minaj & Iggy Azalea
Nicki called Iggy out for allegedly not writing her own lyrics. Iggy never actually responded but…who’s got the red hot career right now?
Queen Latifah & Foxy Brown
Back in the 90s, Queen Latifah released “Name Callin'” which was just a general diss track — but Foxy took it personally. She responded with “Talk To Me”, which barely anyone listened to — until Latifah released “Name Callin’ Part 2”.
